The second day of the Tour started with a view on the Misty Mekong River and a gentle wakeup call from a ceremony and chanting monks.
We started at different times, 7 am for the hybrids and 7:30-ish for the road bikes.
Some over-eager road bikers took off at 7:30 sharp under the impression that modern technology and GPS tracks would like them in the right directions.
That assumption turned to be just that, an assumption and after 7 km the track turned into a dirt road. There are still differences of opinion whether this 1st group was lost, or that the GPS track is to blame, but nevertheless, we were very thankful that the others waited for us at the first rest stop.
The scenery was very pretty, with views over the Loei river, lots of hills, and lots of hills and lots of hills and very little traffic.
Unfortunately our guides had to tell us to turn back (just after Stefan and David did a 20+% climb) and take another route.
Lunch @70km was at a local school with very tasty noodle soup and Padthai.
The last 58 km were still tough with lots of gravel roads, steep climbs.
Needless to say, all of us were quite happy to arrive at the PhuNaCome Resort, where a dip in the pool in combination with some ice cold beers were well deserved!
